Jane Perlez is an Australian born journalist who has been The New York Times correspondent in Africa, Eastern Europe and Indonesia. She is currently reporting from Pakistan.
Perlez moved to New York in the 1970s, and worked for The New York Post, The New York Daily News, and the Soho Weekly News, before joining The New York Times. She was the paper's chief diplomatic correspondent from 1999–2001, and has been posted to Africa, Poland, Austria, Indonesia, and now Pakistan.
Perlez was a Pulitzer Prize nominee in 1993 for her coverage of events in Somalia.
Perlez was part of The New York Times' team that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting, 2009, for their distinguished coverage of the war against the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan.[1]
